I won’t quit producing movies - Zynnell

Actress Zynnell Lydia Zuh’s decision to remain behind the cameras as a movie producer appears shaky as she has told NEWS-ONE that production is more stressful than she expected.

The beautiful actress announced in October last year that she was going into movie production after 10 years of acting.

The pronouncement came with the production of her first movie titled, ‘When Love Comes Around’ starring Jim Iyke and Eku Edewor from Nigeria,Pierra Makena (Kenya) among others.

The movie which was produced by Zynnell’s Five Star Pictures Production, is currently on the editing bench and would hit the big screens very soon.

According to Zynnell, though producing her first movie was stressful, she would not give up on producing because she had come to love the process of filmmaking.

“Producing has made me appreciate the filmmaking process more as I am more involved with all the aspects of filmmaking…As an actress my job is limited to reading the script, understanding the story, my character and delivering once I hear ‘action’.

But as a producer, my responsibilities include script choice, assembling the right cast and crew and finding markets and opportunities for the film as soon as it is ready. Will I produce again?… Hmmm.

If I think about the stress of producing my first film I would say no but I have come to love theprocess of filmmaking and I am sure if I find a story worth telling I would do this all over again.

Besides, it gets easier the more you do it right,” she said. Zynnell has been in Ghana’s movie industry since 2004. After high school, she began auditioning for roles.

She auditioned for a lead role in TV series titled ‘Sticking To The Promise’ by Point Blank Media. Fortunately, she won the role, playing a twin to another actress.

From there, she was discovered by Director/Producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso, who auditioned and featured her in ‘Different Shades of Blue’ TV series and a cameo role in her movie, ‘Life and Living It’.
She has since featured in a number of Ghanaian movies.

I don't deserve a nomination in 2014 Ghana DJ Awards; says DJ Perfekt

Popular DJ, DJ Perfekt, known in real life as Henry Ofori Nyarko, has called on the organizers of the annual Ghana DJ Awards to drop his name from the awards' nominations stating he does not deserve any nomination The DJ has been nominated in the 'Artiste DJ of the Year' category of the awards, which awards excellence in the Disc Jockey profession in Ghana.

Also in the 'Artiste DJ of the Year' category are DJ Toyoo (Tic Tac), DJ Mynor (R2Bess), DJ Mensa
(Sarkodie), DJ Carlos (VIP), and DJ Godday (Edem).

According to DJ Perfekt, who was speaking in an interview on the Airtel Entertainment News on Drive Time on Joy FM, organizers of the awards, Mercury Republic, have gravely erred in nominating him in the awards.

"So far as I am concerned, I don't remember the last time I played for the artiste that I am nominated [for] - that is Samini," he said.

According to him, the last time he played for Samini was about four years ago.

"So if I am nominated in that category I feel like there is a lot of homework to be done," DJ Perfekt stressed.

Reacting to allegations of not doing due diligence with the nomination process, Mercury Quaye, CEO of Mercury Republic, said it is unfortunate this issue is coming up and stressed that there is nothing wrong with the nomination process.

"It's quite interesting the kind of revelation we are having now.

Our research revealed that there was a programme where Samini did a live band and Perfekt played with the live band," Mercury Quaye said.

Although he cannot name the programme on which DJ Perfekt played for Samini, his team "will have to cross check," to rectify the anomaly, if only there is any.

He promised that, "If we go and check and DJ Perfekt is right, DJ Perfekt's name will be dropped from the nominees' list for the Ghana DJ Awards 2014."

Mercury Quaye explained that organizers have taken steps to ensure that this year's event is.very transparent and fair.

"One thing that we have done this year is to take the awards [and] spread across the country so if you look at the nominations list we have gone beyond Accra, gone beyond Kumasi, we've gone as far as Tamale just to make sure that all these other DJs that don't really have the spotlight are.also recognized," he said.

Mercury Quaye therefore urged that, "If anybody has a problem with anything with respect to the awards," they have been nominated "and they feel they don't deserve to [be nominated]...they should just reach us and the right thing done."

Asked if his name is not dropped from the nominations and he wins, will he accept the award, DJ Perfekt stressed that, "I don't deserve to be in that particular category this year. I think my name should be dropped from that category."

No Visa for Tutulapato.

Child rapper, Kosmos Boako aka Tutulapatu who was crowned winner of TV3 Talented Kids last year is only now realising the hard truths about his prize package eight months after the talent contest.

At the final event when he was handed part of his prize package, mini laptop computer and boxes of Indomie, his expectation was that soon, he was going to enjoy the bigger portion of his promised package - an educational trip to the UK and a sum of GH¢ 4,000.

Unfortunately, Tutulapatu was “bounced” when he applied for a UK visa and his GH¢ 4,000 can only be accessed in 10 years time, when the lad turns 18.

Pope Skinny, Tutulapatu’s manager, who is not happy about how his artiste has been treated by TV3, is asking officials of the TV station to come out with acceptable reasons why Tutulapatu was denied a visa to the UK.

According to Pope Skinny, TV3 did not
communicate to them when Tutulapatu was denied visa. “I only got to know of Tutulapatu’s visa problem on Adom FM late last year.

“I expected a big company like TV3 to do the right thing by communicating to us when they were having difficulty securing visa for Tutulapatu, but no one did”, Pope Skinny told Showbiz in an interview last Monday.

He said he heard from a close source at TV3 that Tutulaputu was refused a visa because he could not provide enough evidence regarding his guardians who took care of him.

Pope Skinny who said he is prepared to take the case as far as he can said “TV3 is always doing such things to innocent kids who cannot fight for themselves.”

But the Production Manager of TV3, Gabriel Asante Bosompem, told Showbiz that Tutulaputu has received all his prizes except his trip to U.K of which he was refused a visa because his parents could not provide enough details of how they were taking care of their son in Ghana.

According to him, it is no fault of TV3 for the UK High Commission to deny Tutulapatu a visa to the U.K. “We provided every document that was required but he was denied on grounds that his parents failed to provide enough document of how they were taking care of their son”

Mr. Bosompem added that, TV3 is not aware of anyone called Pope Skinny claiming to be the manager of Tutulapatu.

“We only know of Tutulapatu’s parents and not Pope Skinny. In fact, Pope Skinny can go ahead and do whatever he likes because TV3 is not in any contract with him.” Mr Bosompem said.

He explained that the GH¢ 4,000 he received as part of his prize package has been kept safely for him until he is 18 years when he can access it.

“The management of TV3 decided to keep the money for him until he is 18 years. We wouldn’t be doing him any good if we gave an 8 years old boy GH¢ 4,000” he said.

Justin Bieber charged with assault

Justin Bieber was charged Wednesday with assaulting a limousine driver in Toronto a month ago, police said.

Bieber arrived at a Toronto police station for booking Wednesday evening amid a chaotic scene as determined photographers, reporters, screaming fans and the curious converged around his SUV.

About a dozen Toronto police officers shoved their way through the crowd to escort Bieber, getting him through the door only after a struggle.

The alleged incident happened after the limo driver picked up a group of six people outside a Toronto nightclub just before 3 a.m. on December 30, according to a police statement.

"While driving the group to a hotel, an altercation occurred between one of the passengers and the driver of the limousine," the police statement said.

"In the course of the altercation, a man struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times. The driver stopped the limousine, exited the vehicle and called police."

Bieber left the Toronto police station Wednesday night, according to a reporter for CTV.

The singer attended a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game at the Air Canada Centre earlier in the evening, according to the CBC.
Bieber is set to appear in a Toronto court on March 10, police said.

This is the 19-year-old pop star's second arrest in a week.

Bieber's representative sent a written statement to CNN as the singer was inside the police station.

"The Toronto Police Service requested that Justin Bieber appear in Toronto today to face an allegation of assault relating to an incident on December 29, 2013," the statement said.

"We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a
misdemeanor in the United States."
"Our position is that Mr. Bieber is innocent," the representative said.

"As the matter is now before the court, it would be inappropriate to address the specifics of either the allegation orof our defense at this time."

Bieber was briefly jailed in Miami on January 23 after he was stopped by a police officer who said he was drag racing in a residential street.

He was booked on charges of drunken driving, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license.

Sheriff's detectives in Los Angeles presented evidence this week to the district attorney in their investigation of Bieber's alleged egg attack on a neighbor's house three weeks ago. The prosecutor is expected to decide as early as next week whether Bieber will be charged with felony vandalism for the incident.

Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, has posted messages on Twitter that appear to be related to Wednesday's arrest:
"for all those asking @JeremyBieber and @pattiemallette love their son. Stop passing judgement on a situation u dont understand. i ask
people to be kind and hope for the best in people. not assume the worst. thanks"

Bieber's latest criminal arrest came just an hour after the television debut of his newest video, for his song "Confident."

CNN was first alerted to the story through a Twitter posting from Toronto.

Opinion: Money and Justin Bieber's teenage brain Egging investigation 'tightening up'

Detectives are "tightening up" their case against Bieber in his alleged egg attack on a neighbor's residence, an investigator said Tuesday.

The neighbor accused Bieber of tossing eggs over a fence and onto the mansion next door on January 9, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage.

A dozen Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies raided Bieber's $6.5 million home in the exclusive Oaks community in Calabasas, California, two weeks ago, taking the security video system as evidence.

A prosecutor reviewed the security video Monday and asked detectives to do more investigation before a decision is made about charging the pop star with felony vandalism, according to Lt. David Thompson.

Detectives will likely meet again with prosecutors in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office next week, Thompson said. The district attorney will then decide if a charge will be filed against Bieber.

Help give Ronnie Coaches of Buk Bak a befitting burial - Bright appeals

Prince Bright (Bling Sparkles) of Buk Bak has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to come in their numbers to support the burial of his best friend music partner, Ronnie Coaches.

Ronnie, 36, died on November 21, 2013 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The mortal remains of the musician, also known in real life as Ronnie Nii Quarshikumah Quainoo, will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 1, 2014.

Bright, who was in the same group - Buk Bak - with Ronnie since the 1990s, touched down in Ghana from the US last Saturday, said the little Ghanaians can do for the late musician is to turn out in their numbers for the funeral.

The burial of the late musician will be preceded by a Wake Keeping at the National Theatre on January 31.

The body will be laid in state at the National Theatre on February 1.

The remains of the late musician will be interred at the Osu Cemetery on February 1, followed a memorial service at the Success Chapel, Bubuashie in Accra on Sunday, February 2. Bright told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that, "Ronnie is for all and he was part of the music community in Ghana.

So I believe that everybody that has love for Buk Bak and wants to support Ronnie has every right to be there. This is in support of a brother who contributed so much to the music industry in Ghana."

"What more is better than showing up and showing love to support his family in this time of grief so I am expecting to see everybody who is a musician or who is in the industry and supports good music, Ronnie is a part of us and if he is no more, the least we can do is to show our last respects to him," he added.

Bright urged "all my brothers and sisters in the industry, and the general public as well, to come and support the funeral service for Ronnie so we place him in the hands of the Almighty God."

The National Theatre will also host a special musical concert in honour of Ronnie Coaches on February 1.

The concert will see performances from several artistes including Prince Bright (Bling Sparkles) and music trio, 4x4.

Bright, however, did  not give further details of the artistes who will be performing at the concert except to say, lovers of Ronnie will mount the stage on the day.

Shortly after Ronnie's death, reports emerged that he had a number of children with some women.

Answering a question on what should be done towards the upkeep of the kids, Bright said Ghanaians should come to their aid.

"We should leave that in the hands of God... hopefully these children will have the proper support from the family, from the community we live in, Ghana in general," he said and urged benevolent organisations to support the family.

"Ronnie was a very generous person, he was a loving, kind person.

Ronnie was all about unity...he loved his family. We created magic together.

If you have any remours against anybody, please make peace with each other," he stated.

David Oscar Attacks Blogger Who Said ‘Ghanaian Comedians Are Not Funny

To make one laugh, its not an easy task.
Comedy in Ghana is not as strong as the movie and music industry but hopes are high that it will get better as time goes on.

For sometime now, the comedy in
Ghana is gaining much attention as DKB, David Oscar, Funny Face, Nhyiraba Foster, David Aglah and other comedians are working hard to develop that side of the industry.

Zionfelix.com yesterday reported an opinion written by Ebenezer Anangfio in Monday’s edition of Graphic Showbiz asking if Ghanaian comedians are even funny

[READ IT HERE]. In his article, he said;

“Aside Funny Face, other comedians who have been on the comedy scene have not impressed.

I can understand why Ghanaians will scream for home grown comedians to be given the opportunity, but then we
should not forget that, comedy is business not a show of patriotism whereby people are given opportunities because they are Ghanaian comedians.”

David Oscar, a comedian has called
Anangfio, the writer a stomach blogger.

In his post on instagram he wrote;
CorporateComedySeries has been on the road 5times and still counting.

All these minus the number of Tertiary institutions we have and continue to tour.

Does @anangfio think all the people we’ve
entertained believe there are no comedians in Ghana?

Come again my friend. Don’t deceive yourself.

Its good u dont even believe in any of us. We will see where u stand when our moment is eventually here.

#stomachblogger
He continued to post a tweet which
happened between him and Ebenezer last year and wrote this about it.

That was him when the premiere of
#corporatecomedyseries was trending on twitter.

He shamelessly took the link and tweeted the story. When he was
confronted, that was his tweet aa u can see.

Now this same nitwit turns around to write shit about me again.

Sorry dude, wany3 lucky. Go and tell ur pay masters, that is if they give u any lorry fare at all that GHComedy will grow.

And Im praying for them to be alive when we are finally there. #Peaceout

Eric Donaldson set to rock Ghana

A Jamaican top reggae artiste, Eric Donaldson, is set to headline two major musical concerts in Ghana.

According to the organizers, the first concert dubbed, ‘Big Man Dance’ will be held on February 1, at the plush Mensivc Hotel in Accra for very important personalities (VIPs) who would want to have their private session with the Reggae legend in a serene environment.

The second show which is for the masses will also be held on February 5, at the La Beach and it will be used to celebrate the birthday of reggae legend Bob Marley which falls on February 6.

The Jamaican singer who has a huge loyal fan base in Ghana is an astounding performer by industry standards.

The Eric Donaldson Live in Ghana Concert was scheduled for December 21 and 25 last year but had to be cancelled due to flight problems.

Kofi Okyere Darko, known in the showbiz scene as KOD, one of the organisers, told BEATWAVES in a chat that Eric Donaldson will be in town one clear week before the concert, adding that the Jamaican artiste would use the opportunity to rehearse and grant interviews to hype the show.

Nkrumah's birthplace to get university

Nkroful in the Ellembele District of the Western Region, the birth town of Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is to have its first university, the Institute of Science and Humanities.

The University is a brain child of the Kobbinah family at home and abroad and two academicians.

Nana Kwasi Kutuwa, Nkroful Chief, called for a special quota for the indigenes as well as scholarship scheme to enable more people to acquire higher education.

Awulae Annor Adjaye 111, Paramount Chief of Western Nzema, commended the Kobinnah family for the project and praised the chief of Nkroful for leasing land for the completion of the University.

Borngreat gets defense from VGMAs organizers

The reigning Gospel Artiste of the Year, Herty Borngreat, has come under severe verbal attack for saying she would not submit her works for the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) nomination
process.

Herty, speaking on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, over the weekend, explained that her current studies abroad would not give her the needed time to submit her works to the VGMA board and follow up by moving round the country to rally votes for them if they are nominated.

This explanation has not gone down well with a section of entertainment pundits who think she is running away from the 2014 VGMA for fear of losing out.

George Quaye, host of The Pundits on GhOne Television, has however sprung to the defence of the multi-award-winning Herty, saying she should be taken for her word and excused to focus on her studies.

According to George, Herty is not afraid of the VGMAs because she worked very hard in the year under review and has works that fully qualify for nomination.

“In the year under review (2013), Herty did very well.

She released a whole album and songs from that album are still getting good rotation on radio.

She did a concert at Alisa and it was a packed auditorium.
She did not have a bad year at all.

We all have different preparation levels and she is saying that because of her studies, she does not have enough time on hand to move round to campaign for votes.

“Fortunately, she has not said she should not be nominated all she is saying is that she would not be as active as the previous years. Let us give her the benefit of the doubt.

If the VGMA Board thinks Herty deserves to be nominated and they go ahead and nominate her and she still does not move out to rally support for that nomination, then it is left to her but for now, I think she should be excused,” George explained.

George is a Senior Events Producer/Director and Head of Media, Brands and Communication for Charter House.

He continued: “Some people do not know Herty Borngreat well enough. This is the Herty Borngreat that beat an artiste as hot as EL to win Discovery of the Year.

This is the artiste that beat a song as popular as Kwabena-kwabena and Asem’s song, ‘Bye Bye’ to win Best Collaboration of the Year.
Then she also won Gospel Song of the Year.

My point is that Herty Borngreat is not afraid that if she gets nominated she won’t win or something.

I don’t think that is the point at all. Because over the years, she has a proven track record. I think people like her should not be underrated at all.”

In 2013, Herty released her third successful album, ‘Mystery’, which received heavy rotation on radio, TV and online.

In the same year, she also put up several performances and launched the maiden edition of her gospel musical concert dubbed “Be My Guest”.

It was a mega live gospel concert that attracted several hundreds of people and performances from veteran gospel musicians Mary Ghansah, Nobel Nketia and Tagoe Sisters.

She has carved a niche for herself as one of Ghana’s enterprising gospel musicians and won the hearts of many music fans in Ghana with her soul-touching music and stagecraft.

Macklemore 's Grammy nightmare came true Sunday (Jan. 26), when he took home the Best Rap Album trophy, beating out Kendrick Lamar 's major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city.

The rapper, a newcomer himself, ironically completed the feat with an album called The Heist , which he and producer Ryan Lewis delivered independently.

"You got robbed," Mack wrote via a text message to Lamar after the show. "It's weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech.

Then the music started playing during my speech, and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is.

Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love."

Mack posted a screen shot of the text to his Instagram, reports HipHopDX .

Elsewhere online, both he and Lamar were Twitter trending topics during the broadcast, and actor Michael Rapaport (longtime hip hop head and co- star of genre cult classic Higher Learning ) refused to hold back when he weighed in.
"Macklemore won best Rap record at the Grammys.OMGOODness.hiphop is dead & KILL the d--n Grammys.

where the hell is RAKIM? Macklemore ain't Rap," Rapaport wrote, according to Complex.com .

"... RAKIM,KRS1 & BDK are shaking there d--n heads to break beat Over the fact that Macklemore won best Rap album at the bulls--t

a-- Grammys," he added [note for the non- believers: "BDK" is Big Daddy Kane ].
Prior to winning the award, Macklemore predicted that it would be a travesty if he won , and news leaked that the Grammy committee debated whether or not Mack and his DJ partner are even hip hop enough.

Ultimately, however, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ended up with four wins total — also including Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for "Thrift Shop" — and helped to make television history when, during their performance (of "Same Love"), 33 same sex and straight couples were married in a mass ceremony officiated by Queen Latifah .

Lamar, nominated seven times , lost in every category.

"You know he raps and people receive it as that, it's just opinions," Lamar told MTV News on the pre-show red carpet about Macklemore. "He just needs to do him. I wouldn't listen to what nobody got to say."

DKB calls some Ghanaian celebrities ‘waste’

When Ghanaian celebrities step out to attend events, most of them are usually seen in clothes made by foreign designers.

Few of these celebrities proudly wear Ghanaian made goods and acknowledge thedesigners for their good works on red carpets.

Events like Ghana Music Awards, 4syte Music Video Awards, Movie Premieres, BASS Awards and all the big concerts held in the country are heavily attended by our stars in expensive designer clothes from outside.

On most of our red carpet at events, celebrity’s clothes, shoes, handbags, belts and other glossaries are mostly foreign designer made.

Derick Kobina Bonney popularly known as DKB has described Ghanaian celebrities who attend events in foreign designer clothes and acknowledge the manufactures of the costume on red carpet as ‘waste people.’

DKB made this statement last Saturday January 18 at the nominees’ announcement party of the 2014 Ghana DJ Awards, the event scheduled for February 22 this year.

He said it is sad to see these people promoting foreign goods but complain of Ghanaians not supporting their stars in their field of work
.
When everybody thought it was one of his usual jokes he was sharing on the night, the ‘Boys Boys’ TV host said he is serious about it and it’s different from his witticisms for the night.

“Some Ghanaian celebrities are waste, I am serious. It’s not a joke.

Some of them buy clothes from abroad and pay huge sums of money for it and advertise it for free when they get on red carpet without earning anything from it.”

He continued that foreign celebrities who are seen in designer attires on red carpets wear them for free but don’t purchase them with their money.

“The Hollywood celebrities some of us are copying wear designer clothes for free and some are even contracted for their services but my own colleagues will buy the expensive foreign goods and promote them for free which to me doesn’t augur well for our industry’

He advised victims of his problem to use local goods to boost the producers of the local fabrics.

“Let’s help our local people so that they will also help us in our job. How may Ghanaians can even buy those foreign goods?”

Sexually explicitly music, hallmark of creativity?

The introduction of sexually explicit lyrics in the music industry worldwide as a tool or medium of sending messages to their targeted audience has reared its ugly head in the Ghana music industry.

It is said among well noted industry players that the music industry is set to educate, inform, entertain and reform the human race worldwide.

Leading musicians, who have made their mark in the industry, such as Kojo Antwi, Daddy Lumba, Pat Thomas and Amanzeba, have in the past years carved a niche of creating music which have content of sexually explicit words, but yet has been well thought through before bringing it out for the public consumption.

Arguably, the hottest song of the moment is “Tonga” by Joey B, featuring Sarkodie. The song has been very popular especially after its release in mid December.

The song has received some condemnations due to its lyrical content which seemingly smacks of some sexually explicit words.

While people are referring to the word “Tonga” in a metaphorical sense as representing the Vagina, the owner of the song, Joey B, says it is an acronym for “The Only Nice Girl Around”.

One of such examples which can be made out of such controversial music which has made history in the Ghanaian music industry is “Moses”, by A.B Crentsil, banned by the government during the 1970’s.

It can be said, the music as at the time was not given air play on the Ghanaian radio waves because of its suggestive words.

It was at the just launched Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2014 that it was announced that the organizers (Charter House) would be sponging out any music with sexually suggestive and explicitly music which made it during the year under review of the VGMA.

At the press launch of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2014, Mrs.

Theresa Ayoade, who is the Executive Director of Charter House emphatically, said they would only reward music that is morally sound and they would reject every song that has sexually explicit or violent lyrics.

She added that their mandate is to endorse songs and it is the right thing to do in order to promote the industry.

When it comes to ‘Tonga’, there are two questions involved.

Is the Board going to examine the lyrics literally for sexually explicit words to disqualify it or are they going to make inferences as the public is doing except Joey B?

Mrs. Ayoade didn’t just end there, she advised musicians to create radio edit songs to make it through the nominations.

What if the DJs play the “explicit” song from December till date and then an unknown lyrically edited version with its originality maintained, is entered tomorrow, is it going to be considered objectively over the unedited one for nomination?

My pastor hates seeing breasts - Nana Yaa Appiah

A popular Akan/Twi movie actress, Nana Yaa Appiah, has told NEWS-ONE that combining her active Christian lifestyle and acting career has been a major challenge for her.

“I cannot play certain roles and have had to reject many scripts because my pastor does not like to see my buttocks or breasts, not even a small part of it in movies. He would get angry because it is against the teachings of my church.

I attend the Open Bible Faith Ministry at Atonsu and as you can see, I can’t even pierce my ears more than double. I sing at church and I am bound to be a role model,” Nana Yaa noted.

Interestingly Nana Yaa is a very pretty lady with well rounded curves that could raise eyebrows if exposed in movies.

She is tall and light-skinned, has an infectious smile and the type of body that could excite any right-thinking adult male.
Nana Yaa admitted that the job of an actress has become very competitive and her selective attitude puts her at a disadvantage, but she does not have a choice because she is a practicing Christian and would have to abide by the teachings of her church and her pastor.

Asked if her church does not know she needs to work to get money to pay her tithes and offering, Nana Yaa said her choice of career is not motivated by money.

“Acting movies in Ghana is not all about making money.

The movies for which I was paid very small monies have rather helped me enter places I could not have entered. It has opened doors for me.

So sometimes, you consider some of these things rather than focus on money for now….there was a time a family invited me to spend holidays with them in Europe simply because they love the way I act,” she stated.

Nana Yaa emerged on the Akan/Twi movie scenes in 2009 and with support from Samuel Akwesi Nyamekye of Miracle Films, she has since acted in some 70 movies.

Though she started mostly by playing the role of a pastor’s wife, Nana Yaa later switched to other roles which have earned her numerous accolades including Osofo Maame, Dede, Mama G and Lady Posh.

I don’t like those artists that try to do HipHop - Appietus

Producer Appietus has an issue with the clamouring of the hip hop genre by some mainstream artistes of today.

“The only thing I don’t like about our music industry is those artists that try to do the Hip Hop; you can’t play or rhyme it in their accent better than producers and artists in America. It’s their culture and they live in it,” he’s told this website’s Adullai Isshak.

He also spoke on the challenges artistes are facing with getting decent numbers for album sales.

Full quotes below “The only thing I don’t like about our music industry is those artists that try to do the Hip Hop; you can’t play or rhyme it in their accent better than producers and artists in America. It’s their culture and they live in it.

They can’t play better Afro Beats than us and we can’t play better hip hop than them. .

Music is universal but it’s the language we put on the rhythm that make it Ghanaian, western or Asian music.”

“When you listen to music from any part of the world, it can stir a feeling within you. When Magic System’s “Premiere Gaou” hit Ghana, almost everyone who was crazy for the tune never understood what they said but never cared.

All they knew was that they had found some good dance music.”

On album sales “The mistake our artists make mostly is that, when they make an album they promote only two or three songs on the album and leave the rest of the songs on the album to mature into hits by themselves which is wrong.

So in the mind of the people, the best songs on the album are the ones you promoted and since not everyone is discerning when it comes to music, they are only going to judge the strength of the album based on the hits on it and it will go against you.”

“To make album, you have make hit singles and gather them onto the album. That’s how you will get a platinum album in the west. And if you have an album with several hits on it, people will be encouraged in getting the whole thing and not pirating just one or two songs off the whole album.

“You go to the best studios to record two good songs and the rest, you just let a struggling producer do cheap work for you, and you think it will not go against you in the end. It’s an album and so spending good money to make a good album goes a long way to boost your image as an artist because that is what people will use to judge you.”

Appietus’ Big Bang Compilation, which features acts like Sarkodie, Kwaw Kese, and Castro is out soon.

Dj Killer Fingers, others missing on DJ Awards list

The 2014 edition of the Ghana DJ Awards scheduled to take place at the National Theatre in Accra next month is likely to come off without some celebrated Ghanaian DJs and radio personalities.

Nominations for the award released last Saturday came without some expected names of DJs believed to have worked hard during the year under review.

The likes of DJ Nii Aryee Tagoe of Joy FM, DJ Killer Fingers of YFM, Blackboy of YFM, Kwasi Aboagye, Abeiku Santana of Okay FM, and Bola Ray Joy FM among others were all missing from the nomination list which is making the rounds.

Though the reasons why they could not make it to the list is unknown, indications are that, it may be a case of “not everybody can be nominated for this year especially when they were nominated for the Previous edition.”

Also, they may have not worked hard enough to merit a nomination or they did not submit their works for consideration for the year under review.

Nigerian Actress Angela Okorie - I know my husband wont cheat on me because I satisfy him in everything

Ex Delta soap model cum actress, Angela Okorie in a chat with Sunday Express Entertainment says it takes a man who doesn’t get everything from his wife to cheat on her.

When asked if she can ever leave her matrimonial home on the bases of infidelity, the pretty actress responded:

“In the first place, it will take a lot beforebmy husband can go for another woman.

That can only happen when I don’t satisfy him in everything, which I do. It is only when a woman does not satisfy her man in
everything that he goes in search of other women.”
(Erm..I don’t think I agree with this).

She continues ” I’ve never caught my husband with another woman, so I don’t believe all men are polygamous in nature.

I don’t think so. There are good men and I married one.”

BBC to establish foundation in Komla’s memory

Director of global news at the BBC, Peter Horrocks, has announced plans to establish a foundation in Dumor’s memory for aspiring African journalists.

Mr. Harrocks made this known when he joined dozens of BBC staff to remember their departed colleague at an impromptu memorial gathering on Monday January 20, 2014.

Speaking at the service held at the All Souls Church, Mr. Horrocks, warmly recalled how Dumor would always call him ‘boss’ despite his
protestations to the contrary.
‘He blazed a path for so many others,’ said Horrocks.

A series of moving tributes followed from Dumor’s closest friends and colleagues.

“He called me ‘chief’ said head of the African Service, Solomon Mugera.

Several speakers recalled that they had been told to ‘look after’ him when he first arrived in the UK but that he soon became more like a ‘big brother’, looking out for them instead.

Liliane Landor, controller of languages at global news, described him as a man ‘big in stature, intellect and heart’.

Komla Dumor died at his London home on Saturday after a suspected heart attack.

Marry a good friend not one you think you love - Kontihene advises

Musician Emmanuel Nana Appiah Boateng, popularly known as Kontihene, has married his heartthrob Dulcie Omane Boateng at a colourful wedding ceremony.

The hiplife musician, known for several hit songs including 'Aketesia', told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that the wedding which came off at Sheila's Executive Lodge, Sunyani, in the Brong Ahafo region, on Saturday, January 18, was a memorable one for him.

He explained that contrary to speculations, the wedding wasn't a private one and that he chose Sunyani because Dulcie's family resides there.

Kontihene said he had known his wife, whom he described as "my good friend", for eight years before dating her for another year in the United States of America.

He held the view that, it is prudent to marry a good friend and not someone "you claim to love." "Find a friend who understands you because marriage is a journey.

Find someone who can support you when the going is though," the musician added.

Touching on their honeymoon, Kontihene said "I am a
typical Ashanti man" and that he does not really
believe in "honeymoon".

He said he had to quickly get back to work after the wedding and may consider the honeymoon at a later date.

MUSIGA has not banned Joey B's 'Tonga'

News circulating has it that, Joey B’s popular song, ‘Tonga’ has been banned by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

According to the report, “Nana Kwame, the host of OC Showbiz Review on Skyy Power FM, Takoradi confirmed to the reporter that, the 'Tonga’ song has been banned by MUSIGA. This was also confirmed to the Master Planner by the Composer himself, Joey B.”

OMG!Ghana.com can confirm that Joey B’s ‘Tonga’ song has not been banned by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) as it was reported. Reacting to the story on Monday’s edition of the mid-morning show, ‘Brunch2Lunch’ on Radio Univers, Joey B’s manager, Gee told Bra Chef, host of the show that MUSIGA has not banned the song.

He added that the false information circulating is a game plan by some media men to send a message to Charter House, organizers of Ghana Music Awards not to nominate the song for this year’s awards ceremony.

He continued that the song ‘Tonga’ is not profane and they have submitted it to Ghana Music Awards organisers.

A check by OMG!Ghana.com on MUSIGA’s twitter handle also proved that the song which features BET award-winner Sarkodie has not been banned.

TV3 dumps Tutulapato; ends up in the village

As media people, there are some stories we fantasize being the first to publish and that alone comes with some pride of a sort, yet there are some other stories that despite being the first to publish, you still feel sorry about it because of its consequences on the individual.

Flex newspaper can authoritatively report in this week`s edition of the paper that child celebrity Tutulapato is now residing in the village because his managers including Buffalo and Pope Skinny have left him painfully because of an untoward behavior from Tutulapato`s mother.

When entertainment pundits had started jubilating over the glory the young chap real name Cosmos Boako aka Tutulapato was enjoying after winning Tv3`s Talented Kids reality show last year, we never thought it was going to be short lived as this.

Now the young man has been sent back to his Breman Asikuma village aimlessly and without hope of getting any quality education again after being enrolled at the Silicon International School at Teshie Nungua.

This is how our informant who happens to be a radio presenter at Oda Radio Biyac in the Eastern region told Flex newspaper last Monday “Initially Tutulapato
was managed by Buffalo Entertainment, a recording studio at Breman Brekwa owned by one police officer who is popularly called Buffalo.

Buffalo was working at Brekwa until his current transfer to Assin Fosu. Because he was liked by all the family people of Buffalo, one brother of Buffalo picked Tutu to Accra where he registered him at the Silicon International School for his preparatory education.

Pope Skinny was only helping in terms of promotion but then he was never the manager. What was happening is that, Tutulapato`s mother thinks Buffalo is making more money out of the small boy so she was always putting pressure on the manager to do this and that.

The man is not too happy about developments and has decided to stop managing Tutulapato.

He has been sent back to the village because Buffalo`s brother also known as Johnson does not see why he should continue to take care of Tutulapato now that his brother has stopped working with him.

Unfortunately, ever since “Tutu” came to the village, he has not been happy because he says he does not want to stay in the village any more.

At the moment, he is not schooling and just walking about aimlessly without any positive thing in his life.

TV3 is also saying they are not ready for the boy to travel (allegedly) until he is 18-years so there is a big confusion here.

At the moment, we need somebody to manage him if possible so he can continue his music career” Appiah who is very close to Tutulapato`s family gave Flex newspaper this vivid account including pictures from the village.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with the boss of Buffalo Entertainment whose real name is Seth Dwamena, he admitted to Flex newspaper that though it is true Tutulapto is in the village currently, he has not stopped working with him entirely but there are some issues he has to settle with some people around him especially his mother because she seems to be the problem.

“I have not stopped working with him entirely but there are some few issues we have to settle with his mother.

My brother will still take care of him when school re-opens” he told Flex newspaper reporter David Offei Lartey in a telephone interview.

Pope Skinny has been running around the industry with the tag of managing the young rapper but it looks as if he is not ready to talk to Flex newspaper on the matter as all attempts to reach him on phone for his side of the story have proven futile.

Tutulapato`s mother Maame Mercy, who is at the centre of the controversy is also not picking her calls when we tried to verify issues from her angle.

We hope to bring readers more details of this story in our subsequent editions.

leaked by an unknown source. It started with Bieber begging Gomez to come back and escalated to him sending a photo of his erect penis with the text “Don't tell me you didn't miss this.”

Gomez responded by telling Bieber to go to rehab and asking “how can u let[Lil Za] take the fall for your actions,” the rapper busted for drug possession during last week's raid on Bieber's house. “Can’t hear you over my cash, babe!,” texted Bieber. “You’re only famous cuz of me.”

No one tells me who to choose as a friend – Sandra Ankobiah

For the first time, model, lawyer, and TV presenter, Sandra Ankobiah has spoken about her relationship with the two Yvonnes.

Close to the end of last year, news in social circles was that Sandra had dumped her close pal Yvonne Nelson for Yvonne Okoro.
“No one tells me who to choose as a friend and who I should hang out with.

I have so many friends and I cannot go out with all of them as the same time and that explains why I go out with one at a time” Sandra told Showbiz last Friday.

According to Sandra, the media are making a big deal out of the situation because they are more important things to talk about than who is whose best friend.

“Who I am hanging out with is no big deal that someone should even be talking about. You can’t be out with all your friends at the same time.

But the truth is, there is no problem between the two Yvonnes and I. I am very cool with the two and we talk on daily basis”, Sandra said.

Asked who her best friend was, Sandra replied: my family. “My family will never turn their backs on me when I am in need and that is the reason I will always go for my family as my best friend” Sandra said.

On balancing her careers, Sandra said combining law practice and television presenting has not been easy.

She said her TV show Fashion 101 is on break and she is now concentrating on her new show, A Day In Life on TV3.

She said that although TV presenting is taking almost all her time, she would not hesitate to say she prefers to practice law if she is asked to choose between TV presenting and practicing Law.

Although she featured in movies House Of Gold and Number One Fan, Sandra said the last thing she would consider doing is going full time into movies.

“I have had comments by my admirers that I should go into movies but acting is not really my thing. It would be practicing law first which indeed I am doing now and TV presenting” Sandra said.

Kafui Danku opens up on her peculiar roles

Kafui Danku says she has, more often than not, been cast in bad girl roles in movies such as ‘Today’s Women’, ‘Letters To My Mother’, ‘The Bachelors’, ‘Dream Of Chance’, ‘A Reason To Kill’, ‘4 Play Reloaded’ and ‘Announcement.’
In these movies, Kafui plays characters who snatch her friends’ husbands or go baby stealing.

Although she maintains that it is not her fault that producers cast her in bad-girl roles, the tall actress believes that such roles make her a tough person since she is a soft person in real life.

“Anyone who knows me is amazed when they see me play such roles because they know I am a soft person.

Maybe, the producers want to challenge me that is why they make me play such roles” Kafui told Showbiz.

Although she would like to play other roles than always playing bad girl roles, Kafui said she is cool with playing such roles and that if she is able to make people think she is bad girl by taking up such roles then it means she is doing well.

“If you have people talk about you for playing a bad girl role so well that they even think you are like that in real life, then I think you are good actress” she said.

According to the 30-year old actress, people are quick to judge by saying all sorts of things about you by seeing you play bad girl role in movies.

“I have received bashing on the Internet anytime an article is written about me about a bad girl role I played but I am not bothered at all” she said.

Talking about her movies, Kafui who has gotten the opportunity to work on her own movies said it is very challenging being a producer than an actor.

She explained that people assume you should know more before being a producer and that has challenged her to know so many things before coming out with her movies Letters To My Mother and Devil In A Dress which is soon to hit the market.

Kafui said producing has really upped her game in the industry because it has presented her with the opportunity to show the world that she can do a lot more.

Throwing more light on her second movie, Devil In A Dress which features actors Majid, Ben Brako, Mikki Osei-Berko and Roselyn Ngissah, Kafui said she had to bring her best out since it was her movie and also because she acted alongside great actors.

The beautiful actress said the sky is her limit so far as acting is concerned.

Radio Stations in Takoradi sanction the play of ‘Tonga’

Though it is the hit song in Ghana Radio Stations in Takoradi sanction the play of ‘Tonga’ now, some media houses in Takoradi have placed sanction on the playing of ‘Tonga’ on their airwaves.

This was revealed to the composer Joey B on OC Showbiz Review (Skyy Power 93.5) last Saturday when Nana Kwame the Master Planner interviewed him.

Joey B who sounded shocked as to why his savior song is restricted in Takoradi asked “aden tin a monntumi mmbo? Accra, Radio biaa 3b)”, translated in English “why and what is preventing you from playing when in Accra every Radio Station is playing?

The host of the show, Nana Kwame schooled the momposer on some explicitness in his ribald song.
Admitting how vulgar it is, Joey B promised to come out this week with the radio edit version of the song.

In his own words “s3 3nny3 bibi boni biaa but saa part no p3 na ay3 s3….” Nana Kwame who wasn’t pleased with the Black Avenue Music progeny describing the stanza as ‘p3’ further pressed “you think it’s ‘p3’ (only) when it might and will not be ‘p3’ to many?” was answered by Joey B “ok I will bring a radio edit version of the song this week.” The interview was done in Twi.

According to Joey B, ‘Tonga’ is an acronym for ‘The Only Nice Girl Around’ and not the bawdy meaning around.

Komla Dumor must be accorded a state funeral - GJA proposes

The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has suggested that the late Komla Afeke Dumor – whom the Association describes as Ghana’s best journalist in recent times – should be accorded a state funeral.

The GJA added that the recipient of its flagship award in 2003 must be posthumously awarded national honours deserving of a professional hero.

The suggestions were contained in a statement issued on Sunday, January 19, 2014 and signed by the Association’s President, Dr Roland Affail Monney, as regards the demise of the BBC World TV presenter.

“In appreciation for his unparalleled achievement nationally and huge impact internationally, the GJA propose that Komla Dumor be accorded a state funeral and awarded posthumously a prestigious national honours deserving of a professional hero.” Read below the full, unedited statement from the
GJA: STATEMENT OF GJA ON KOMLA DUMOR

The Media community in Ghana is struggling to come to terms with the reality that Komla Dumor of BBC and Joy FM fame is dead.

Indeed 18th January, 2014 will go down in history as one of the saddest days in Ghanaian journalism, the day we lost one of our purest gems at all times.

For ten years Komla Dumor did justice to his professional mettle at Joyfm where he gave its Super Morning Show a superlative quality.

He also showed his knack for investigative journalism and will stop at nothing to expose dark spots in high political circles and hold people in position or power and responsibility to account.

In all these Komla Dumor displayed an impeccable sense of independence and incredible commitment to objectivity. His fearless disposition and command of the English language were also extra ordinary.

It was natural therefore, when Komla Dumor won the GJA Journalist in 2003.

It was also not surprising when his professional excellence catapulted him unto the world stage precisely the BBC World Service.

In his capacity as the African anchor on the BBC World Service Komla Dumor held aloft the flag of Ghanaian journalism and projected the country's image beyond measure.

By his sudden death Ghana has been robbed of a broadcaster par excellence and its best journalist in recent memory.

In appreciation for his unparalleled achievement nationally and huge impact internationally, the GJA propose that Komla Dumor be accorded a state funeral and awarded posthumously a prestigious national honours deserving of a professional hero. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Mrs.

Kwansema Dumor, his three children, his father Prof. Ernest Dumor and the entire family.

Meanwhile the GJA and the family of Komla Dumor will open a book of condolence at the Ghana International Press Centre from tomorrow Monday 20th January 2014 at 10am.
