The ladies are back!

On the 28th of March 2015, Beat Phreaks in collaboration with the Brown Berry Show and Yoyotinz will be at The Republic with a special edition of their monthly series #TheTakeover.

#TheTakeover is a journey to unearth the best in female talent in an industry that's mostly male dominated. The target is to increase awareness and followership for these acts as well as encourage other females to step up to the challenge of getting behind the decks or picking up the microphone. This is to project a positive image of the craft and blur that distinction between male and female DJs or emcees, as well as encourage other females who have secretly developed an interest in those arts to pursue it.

This month’s edition of the event is meant to commemorate GH Hiphop month which is a month set aside to celebrate homegrown Hiphop music – the artiste and culture as a whole!

The upcoming edition of the event features 4 DJs (DJ Tipsy, DJ Mitchy, DJ MJ and DJ Keyzzz). The ladies will be hosting a slew of Ghanaian Hiphop heads such as C Real, Trigga, Ian Jazzi, Terah AM and many more to mark the end of GH Hiphop month.

#TheTakeover is slated to be a monthly event. Expect a crazy line-up of females at the Republic Bar and Grill in Osu every last Saturday of the month from 8pm till late.

#TheTakeover is more than music, it's a statement! Entry is FREE!

Mau Mau-affiliate and veteran Kenyan hip hop artist, MC Kah, collaborates with conscious, Ghanaian crooner and rapper – Delasi, on the song ‘Accra Nairobi.’

ABOUT SONG

Song release date: October 30, 2014

Mau Mau-affiliate and veteran Kenyan hip hop artist, MC Kah, collaborates with conscious, Ghanaian crooner and rapper – Delasi, on the song ‘Accra Nairobi.’ From classism to corruption, these dope MCs seem to infuse all of Africa’s ever-rising woes.

In a mix of Ewe,Swahili and English, they call out ‘political prostitution’ and a never ending cycle of corruption that seem to be equally manifested in the cities they represent. In his native Ewe dialect, Delasi asks us to take action; ‘Tso na vu wodu’ which translates: “Get up and free your country!”

Africans must hold their leaders accountable just as the Burkinabes are right now. MC Kah echoes this and reminds us of the great heroes of the countries- Kwame Nkrumah and Dedan Kimathi, who fought for their respective nations and Africa as a whole, to attain independence and the common vision of unity. It’s now our turn, as Kah goes on to say: ‘let them know that their sweat was not in vain, but is the reason that elevates the Ubuntu spirit. ‘Accra Nairobi’ is the new mantra for unity in today’s Africa.Remember not to be only listeners of the word but sharers as well. Enjoy!

Get familiar with 'Delasi' the Musician

Delasi is a down to earth concerned citizen of Ghana, a committed friend of the environment, a visionary who believes in sharing his dreams of a better world and he is the Soul God.
Delasi developed love for music at a very young age with a lot of influence from his parents' countless collection of records. His passion for music knows no bounds, as this is what gives him the greatest joy. Delasi's sound has a fusion of R&B, Soul and Hip-hop.
This conscious crooner has the ability of sweeping people off their feet, drawing his audiences in when they hear him perform live.

These days he's venturing into new experiments with Afrobeats, Pop and some Dubstep. His music is generally political and talks about societal issues from the poverty stricken in society to the corrupt governments not doing their jobs.

He also speaks about several other issues addressing the everyday man, relationships and matters of the heart.Being a student of the fine arts, Delasi explores his talents not only through music but also poetry, illustration, playwriting and acting.

He has not only appeared on Citi FM's Writer's Project, but has performed at the Ehalakasa Talk Party, Alliance Francaise, Dubois Center, Nubuke Foundation, Goethe Institute and Chale Wote Street Arts Festival.

The most memorable performance to date is the Rufus Green in the Park where he opened for and performed on the same stage as Koo Nimo and George Darko, two highlife greats. After an appearance at the World Poetry Day event held at the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) House, The Accra Mail, a local newspaper publication described Delasi's single 'Where Do We Go' as a 'painful wail from a young man who even at his tender age seemed to have had a fair share of Weltschmerz'.

It goes on to add that his 'rap about corruption, the lack of direction and the lack of ideas on how to move a nation forward by its rulers was hard to take but somehow you did not want him to stop'.
The video for this song was rated number 7 on Star Africa's top 49 songs of 2013[1] (see link below). Delasi is very optimistic about the future looking forward to it with the kind of prophetic eye that has governed his writing.

As a conscious singer, he believes Life is simply not about gathering wealth and riches. 'The only fulfillment one can truly have in this world is in giving back to the world. I have been blessed with these gifts that I have to account for, and I wish to better society by sharing my talents through the messages and observations I relay'.

Delasi has made this personal philosophy manifest in workshops where he works with kids to bring the joy of music into their lives. He hosted two workshops in  Jamestown at the Chale Wote Street Arts Festival 2013 and since then he was the manager for the ‘Unheard ‘’Voices’ 2014 project where kids from Jamestown and Laterbiokorshie were taught how to write and perform songs.
He plans hosting more workshops in the future as well as getting some musical tuition for some of the kids.

Delasi is also an activist and friend of the Earth and has joined the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM) in a protest against the mining of coal in Ghana. The movement is continuously battling with the Ghanaian government and Delasi plans of doing music and video campaigns to support them.

Brand New Music: Delasi -Why

On his latest release the Ghanaian born, Nairobi resident artist, Delasi, teams up with Japanese producer Junknuts. 'Why' is a question we all ask on a regular basis- in this song Delasi puts the question to the world. A world that he sees in turmoil.
The 'Conscious Crooner' also known as the 'Soulgod' has a lot on his mind and while he does not expect answers anytime soon, he asks us - and he shares his message that we should all have hope- despite the turmoil.
The song is looking at the world today, and Africa in it. The latest plague to hit the continent is Ebola, This has not escaped Delasi and in the line 'biological weapons in the air in our food identical' he refers to exactly this pandemic. He then continues to ask questions to the world about the human thirst for blood - what is this 'Infatuation with murder' ? While he doesn't wait for the answer he does encourage that we instead  'spread love lets live in harmony'.
Delasi is currently working hard to finish his first album 'thought Journey' and if you are lucky it just might be under the tree for you this Christmas.
